“With Schedule Predict™, clinics will be able to manage retrieval volumes proactively instead of reactively. This will reduce stress on OR teams and avoid unnecessary costs, and create more predictable lab workflows. All without compromising care.”

Challenge

With over 20 locations and more than 8,000 IVF cycles performed annually, this large US-based clinic serving patients throughout the Northeast is one of the largest fertility networks in the country. At one of its clinics, the operating room (OR) has a capacity of 14 vaginal oocyte retrievals per day. However, a retrospective analysis showed that from February to June 2024, that threshold was exceeded on 31.6% of days, creating scheduling bottlenecks and placing strain on the staff, resources, and patient flow. To meet demand on those days, the clinic occasionally opened a second OR, which comes with a significant cost. Looking for a more sustainable, data-driven solution, the clinic team partnered with Alife Health to evaluate how Schedule Predict could optimize OR utilization.

Outcome

The Schedule Predict™ tool was able to identify patients whose trigger timing could be safely adjusted without impacting clinical outcomes. This would have resulted in a 67.6% reduction in overcapacity days, 31.6% to just 10.3%. By reducing the need to open a second OR, the clinic projected annual savings of over $700,000, all while maintaining patient safety and outcomes.
